The Disciplines
IAIDO
居合道
Iaido is the Japanese martial art of drawing the sword, striking, and sheathing in one fluid motion. It is a "moving meditation" focused on absolute presence, precision, and the cultivation of a calm, unwavering mind.
JODO
杖道
Jodo is the traditional art of using the Jo (a wooden staff) to neutralize an opponent armed with a sword. It emphasizes timing & distance, using the staff’s versatility to suppress aggression.
TAMIYA Shinken RYU IAIjutsu
田宮神剣流居合術
Tamiya Shinken Ryu Iaijutsu is a 400-year-old tradition from the prestigious Kishu Tokugawa lineage. Characterized by its dignified, large-scale movements, it emphasizes Katsujin-ken—the "life-giving sword", where techniques are practiced with mercy and a humble heart.
The Path of
Focused Intent
Practice at Shinbukai is a silent dialogue between the self and the blade. In the stillness of the dojo, we study the heritage of Iaido and Jodo, not as tools for conflict, but as a framework for absolute presence.
Every draw, every strike, and every movement is an exercise in mental clarity. In the heart of a restless city, we seek the spirit and martial arts as a way to anchor the mind, finding a profound sense of balance that extends far beyond the wooden floors of our training space.
